The purpose of Ramadan.

Fasting is not only refraining from eating and drinking, but also selfish desire and wrong-doing of all kinds. The fast is not merely of the body, but essentially that of the spirit as well. This is a time to forgive others for wrongs they may have done to you. To look inwards and reflect whether you are envious or jealous of what you don't have. To be thankful and grateful of what you do have; especially, your health. This life is short and temporary, and no one can take wealth to the grave, but your deeds and misdeeds will follow you. The mercy you show others in this life will reflect upon you when the judgement day arrives. So keep to your salath and ask for forgiveness, guidance, and protection from God.
